Mayor Injured in Clash During Krishna Janmashtami Fair

A clash broke out during the inauguration of the Krishna Janmashtami fair at Shriram Janaki Brahmababa Temple in Dharhari Tole, Debahi Gonahi Municipality–9 on 16 August, injuring Mayor Prem Lal Sah Kanu, 45. Along with the mayor, police constables Jagdish Rai Yadav, 35, Dhansundar Thakur, 32, Shyam Binaya Sah, 25, and Ram Bikash Sah, 38, from the Area Police Office, Gonahi, were also injured.

During the event, the mayor was attacked with stones which caused him head injury, while the officers sustained injuries to the head, hand, and face. They were treated at Vayodha Multispeciality Hospital, Garuda while the mayor was later referred to National Medical College, Birgunj, for further treatment, according to DSP Rajan Karki of the Area Police Office, Garuda. Mayor Sah stated that a group of three to four individuals attacked him with stones during the inauguration. Police have arrested Radhamohan Sah, 30, Binod Sah, 28, and Ritik Sah, 16, all residents of Debahi Gonahi Municipality–9, for their alleged involvement in the clash. The dispute was over who would inaugurate the Krishna Janmashtami fair and it led to the violent clash between locals and the mayor’s supporters.
