A 17-year-old girl of Sihapal Tole, Belauri Rural Municipality-2, was found dead hanging inside her house on the morning of August 3, 2025. According to DSP Pawan Bohora of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, the victim had reportedly been physically abused at home and visible injuries were found on her body despite it appearing to be a case of hanging. Police arrested her husband, Pawan Bhatt, the same day and the investigation is ongoing.
Although the body was found dead hanging inside the house with the doors and windows locked from the inside, the incident was suspicious. The victim’s father stated that ever since her marriage, she had repeatedly faced mental torture from her in-laws, and since bruises and injuries were found on her body, her death appear suspicious. He said that on August 2 the victim had gone to college. She couldn’t come to her maternal home because she didn’t have money for transportation. Just a day before the incident, the police had come to the house and tried to resolve disputes. He added that she was pushed to the point of death. He further demanded action against those involved in the incident. DSP Sagar Bohora of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, stated that the victim had a love marriage with Pawan at the age of 15. He added that after a dispute arose between the couple last year they were counseled and sent back home.
DSP Bohora added that the body has been kept at Mahakali Hospital for post-mortem.
