Flood Swept Away People and Vehicles at Rasuwagadhi, Rescue and Search Operations Continue

A flood that struck Lende Khola at the Rasuwagadhi border point on the Nepal-China border on the night of July 7 swept away three police personnel, six Chinese nationals, nine local workers, and hundreds of vehicles, leaving them missing. Security personnel and locals have been involved in the search operation. Assistant Chief District Officer Adhikari said that some drivers and workers trapped in the customs parking area were being rescued. Due to the flood, several sections of the Syafrubesi-Rasuwagadhi road have been blocked, while the Betrabati-Mailung road is also closed. Following heavy rainfall on the China side, the flood that entered Lende Khola flows through Bhote Koshi into Trishuli, affecting areas of Rasuwa and Nuwakot.

At around 2 a.m. on July 7, the flood swept away the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project, the dry port, over 200 vehicles parked in the customs area, and the Mitori bridge connecting Nepal and China. People living in the Khalte Bagar displacement camp near the Uttargaya Rural Municipality office stayed awake all night in fear as the floodwaters surged into the Trishuli River. The residents, who were displaced by the 2015 earthquake, were terrified that the flood might enter their camp.

Although the water level has receded, the flow of the river remains high. Taking into account the potential risks, the District Administration Office has issued a notice urging people to stay alert. The Chief District Officer, security officials, and locals are conducting on-site inspections and are involved in search and rescue efforts.
