The bench of District Court Chitwan Judge Dhruvakumar Dhakal on June 27 sentenced Indra Bahadur Bishwakarma,42, of Ratnanagar Municipality-4 to seven years in prison for raping a 25-year-old woman with a mental disability. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 300,000, ordered him to pay Rs 50,000 in compensation, and directed that four percent of the fine be deposited into the victim’s relief fund.
The aggrieved party had filed a complaint against Bishwakarma at the Area Police Office Ratnanagar on January 17, accusing him of raping the woman on January 16. The medical examination of the victim was one on the same day. Police arrested Bishwakarma on January 17, and he was sent to pre-trial detention by the bench of Judge Kedar Paudel on February 10.
