School Operation Affected Due to Lack of Physical Infrastructure and water

Himalaya Primary School of Nalgad Rural Municipality-8, Mangsiri, lacks adequate school building and drinking water. Due to the shortage, both the mid-day snack program and regular classes are conducted in the same room at the school. The school, established in 1982, has 72 students from grades one to five and five teachers on staff. According to Education Officer Manod Sharma, three years ago, under the President Educational Reform Program, a two-room building was constructed, during which the teachers themselves helped in the construction by carrying water in drums.

Education Officer Sharma stated that due to the lack of adequate physical infrastructure and drinking water at the school, students are compelled to bring water from their homes. The water shortage hampers proper sanitation and creates difficulties for students in using the toilet facilities. Furthermore, the local government has not allocated a budget to supply water from the spring located below the school, which has exacerbated the problem. Despite repeated requests to the local government and municipality to address the issue, no response has been received. Ward Chairperson Tejbahadur Singh stated that although budget requests for the school’s drinking water and physical infrastructure development had been submitted, these appeals had yet to receive attention.
