Challenges in Controlling Fire Due to Lack of Fire Truck

Nine municipalities in Baglung district lack fire trucks, posing a risk of loss of life and property during fire incidents in various areas. The absence of the facility even at the district level has made fire control efforts challenging. Municipalities such as Galkot, Dhorpatan, and Jaimini in Baglung, as well as rural municipalities including Kathekhola, Tarakhola, Nisikhola, Tamankhola, Badigad, and Bareng, lack fire trucks. Galkot Municipality Chief Administrative Officer Ghanshyam Gautam stated that they have not been able to procure one yet. While the municipality has four ambulances, it does not have a fire truck. Gautam further explained that although fire trucks are necessary, the municipality currently lacks the capacity to purchase and manage them.

Dhan Bahadur Kayat, the Deputy Chairperson of Dhorpatan Municipality, stated that the municipality lacks essential equipment required for disaster-related fire control. Due to budgetary constraints, concrete measures have not been implemented. Similarly, Dilip Kumar Pun of Bareng Rural Municipality reported that there are no ambulances or fire trucks available in the Rural Municipality. He further stated that local authorities have no alternative but to resort to traditional methods during any incidents .

In the ongoing year 2025, 12 incidents of fire have taken place. These incidents resulted in the death of one person, as well as the burning of seven houses and eight animal shelters. According to SP Tilak Bharti of the District Police Office, the total damage caused by the fires amounted to Rs 3,230,000.
