Ranjita Kumari Mahato, 44, of Salempur, Kabilasi Municipality-10, filed a complaint at the District Police Office, Malangawa, on May 25, stating that she was accused of practicing witchcraft and beaten by Kuber Kumar Mahato, 37, and Sohan Kumar Yadav, 25, of the same place.
The victim stated the accused verbally and physically abused her on May 18, accusing her of practicing witchcraft. Following the complaint, police arrested Kuber Kumar Mahato on May 27 and obtained a one-week remand from the District Court on May 28 for further investigation, according to Inspector Balister Singh of the District Police Office. He further stated that the other accused is still absconding.
The woman received medical treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Malangwa from May 18 to May 20, and a follow-up medical examination was conducted on May 25.
