Ram Babu Sharma has filed a complaint at the Area Police Office, Yadukhuha on May 19, accusing 25-year-old Kamlesh Sharma of beating his 24-year-old daughter Shantidevi Sharma of Shahidnagar Municipality-5 over dowry demands. He stated that he was compelled to file the complaint as his son-in-law repeatedly subjected his daughter to physical assault and mental torture under the pretext of additional dowry.
Ram Babu Sharma stated that on May 19, the accused assaulted his daughter, demanding that she bring an additional Rs 5,00,000 as dowry. He further informed that his daughter sustained injuries on her right hand and abdomen and is currently undergoing treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Janakpurdham. According to the victim, she was married to Kamlesh Sharma on February 17, 2023, following social customs. Despite providing dowry worth Rs 19,00,000 including gold, silver, a motorcycle, and other items, the accused assaulted and injured her on April 1, 2023, demanding additional dowry. The victim further stated that she had to undergo treatment for four days at Janaki Health Care Hospital in Janakpurdham due to the injuries.
A complaint was also filed against the accused at the Women, Children, and Senior Citizens Service Center under the District Police Office, Dhanusha on April 16, 2023. Following the complaint, a discussion between both parties took place on April 25, during which the accused admitted his crime and agreed not to repeat such behavior. On July 20, 2023, when Shanti Devi requested her husband to register the marriage, he subjected her to beating again. The incident was later discussed at the community level, where it was agreed that the marriage would be registered.
Inspector Om Prakash Yadav of the Area Police Office, Yadukhuha, informed that the accused has been absconding since the complaint was filed, and a search is currently underway.
