On May 10, 2025, 41-year-old Dharmaraj Shahi, a member of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Karnali and the Mayor of Raskot Municipality, threatened 32-year-old journalist Karna Bahadur Bishwakarma of Jwala Khabar Online, residing in Raskot Municipality-8, over a news via Facebook Messenger.
The accused allegedly threatened the journalist over the phone, saying he would cut off his hands and kill him for publishing an online news story about a commission scandal involving the former Chief Minister and local Maoist cadres, with lakhs collected solely from schools in Raskot. Biswakarma filed a complaint against Shahi at the District Administration Office on May 11.
Chief District Officer Narayan Prasad Bhattarai stated that it is wrong to threaten a journalist over a news topic and said that an investigation will be carried out based on the complaint filed.
