Discussion Held on Issues of Women and Marginalized Communities under Fourth Cycle of UPR

The Secretariat of the Nepal NGO Coalition for the Universal Periodic Review Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC), organized a discussion program with stakeholders on women’s rights, economic rights, and issues of marginalized communities on the report prepared for Nepal’s fourth cycle review under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), in Kathmandu on April 28, 2025. Nepal’s review under the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the United Nations Human Rights Council has been scheduled for January 2026. NGOs are required to submit their reports to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) by June this year.

In the discussion program, representatives from organizations working on women’s rights, economic rights, Dalit rights, the rights of persons with disabilities, gender and sexual minorities, indigenous and ethnic communities, and child rights participated. The discussion emphasized the need to include issues such as gender equality, gender-based discrimination, violence against women, the social status of Dalits, accessibility for persons with disabilities, the marital and employment status of gender and sexual minorities, and the inequalities faced by Indigenous and ethnic minority women in society, in the report. Advocate Kapil Aryal, the key resource person for the report writing, presented the draft report during the program.
