Clash Between Two Groups Leaves 43 Injured, Curfew Imposed

A clash between the Hindu and Muslim communities broke out in front of the Jama Masjid near Shriram Hall in Birgunj Metropolitan City-2 on April 12, leaving 43 people injured, including 17 police Officers. In response to the incident, the District Administration Office, Parsa, imposed a curfew order the same day to control the situation. The curfew remains in effect on April 13 as well. The clash occurred when a religious procession organized by the World Hindu Council Nepal, Birgunj Metropolitan Committee, reached the area near the Jama Masjid.

The curfew order was issued within Birgunj Metropolitan City from the evening of April 12 until midnight of April 13, by the Local Administration Act, 1971. The curfew has been enforced in Birgunj Metropolitan City, covering the area from Birgunj Metropolitan City-15 Bhediyahi Chowk in the east, Sirsiya Bridge Metropolitan City-25 in the west, Gandak Chowk Metropolitan City-14 in the north, and Metropolitan City-16 Shankaracharya Gate in the south prohibiting people to move around or hold any gatherings, rallies, demonstrations, or meetings within this area.

The District Administration Office held a press conference on April 13 regarding the incident. The local administration reported that it fired 145 rounds of tear gas and two rounds of warning shots to control the situation. The Chief District Officer of Parsa, Ganesh Aryal, during the press conference, informed that 43 people, including Nepal Police, Armed Police, and civilians, were injured in the incident. The details of the injured individuals are still being collected, and the information has not been made public yet. The administration also informed that the curfew order would remain in effect until midnight of April 13.
