Jeet Bahadur Dewan, 38, of Pathari Shanishchare Municipality-4, who was in pretrial detention at the Morang prison, passed away on March 15. Jailor Gaurav Dhungel stated that Dewan, who was admitted to Koshi Hospital on March 13 due to difficulty in moving his hands and feet, died during treatment on March 15. Jailor Dhungel stated that Dewan passed away on March 15 while being treated in the ICU. Dewan was arrested in connection with a case of setting fire to his own house and was charged with criminal behavior. On December 8, the bench of District Court Judge Arun Kumar Jhako ordered Dewan to provide a bail amount of Rs 25,000.
Dewan was in pretrial detention after he was unable to provide the bail amount. The case was still pending at the time of his death. The Jail administration has stated that the body will be handed over to his family on March 16.
