INSEC monitored the vandalism of the Inaruwa Municipality-4 ward office on October 2, which occurred due to accusations of sheltering flood victims in the school and preventing the school from conducting its half-yearly examinations. INSEC, Sunsari, has monitored the incident of students vandalizing the Ward Office of Inaruwa Municipality-4 on October 2. The vandalism occurred in response to allegations that the office was sheltering individuals displaced by the flood in Gyanodaya Basic School, obstructing the school’s semi-annual examinations.
Students of Gyanodaya Basic School vandalized the ward office on October 2 after it was decided to shelter individuals displaced by the flood, following instructions from the Inaruwa Municipality-4 ward office. During the monitoring of the incident, Baulalal Mehta, the Ward Chairperson of Inaruwa Municipality-4, stated that the flood victims from Ward-4 were housed in the school out of necessity, not choice. He added that the vandalism of the ward office was incited by the school’s principal.
However, the principal of the school, 52-year-old Ram Bilas Mehta, stated that the students vandalized the ward office independently and that he did not give any instructions to do so. During the monitoring, Principal Mehta informed the INSEC representative that the students vandalized the office, citing disruptions in the conduct of examinations and claiming that the school had become dirty due to the flood victims.
The students vandalized the office door, two chairs, and the nameplate of Chairperson Baulalal Mehta. The ward office plans to take legal action, alleging that the incident was intentional. During the INSEC monitoring, 12-year-old Nitesh Sharma, a Class 5 student at Gyanodaya Basic School, stated that the displaced persons should be housed outside the school so that the examination could proceed.
