According to the Health Service Office in Salyan, nine individuals were detected with scrub typhus in August. Scrub typhus has spread in Salyan for the first time. The infection was confirmed in nine patients through a kit test after they were observed to have symptoms similar to scrub typhus during their treatment at the District Hospital. Dr. Arjun Kumar Budhamgar, Chief of the Health Service Office, reported that eight women and one man were confirmed to have the infection. The cases include four people from Sharada Municipality, three from Bagchaur Municipality, and one from Chhatreshwari Rural Municipality and Darma Rural Municipality. Among those affected, four are children under the age of 13. Symptoms such as fever and sweating are observed in scrub typhus patients. Chief Dr. Budha Magar explained that this disease attacks after being bitten by rats. It is transmitted when bitten by a microscopic insect called a mite that infects mice. He mentioned that studies have shown that once a mite infects a disease, it spreads to the host, and the infection can last for up to 24 generations. Dr. Budha Magar stated that while early treatment can lead to recovery, delaying it can result in severe consequences, including death.
Additionally, he explained that if treatment begins early, the disease can often be cured with medication alone. However, if treatment is delayed, it may lead to the need for hospitalization. He advised that using medication for five to ten days can lead to complete recovery. Additionally, he recommended that infected individuals consume protein-rich foods and plenty of fluids. According to him, after infection, some people may develop red rashes on their bodies, while others might not have any visible rashes.
