A 34-year-old Detainee, Manikumar Tamang of Belbari Municipality-4, who was under pretrial detention in Morang Prison, died during treatment on September 8. Chetraj Baral, the Jailer of Morang Jail, stated that Tamang, who was suffering from swollen knees and heart problems, was admitted to Koshi Hospital on the evening of September 5 for treatment and passed away on September 8 while undergoing treatment.
Baral stated that five cases involving Tamang are currently pending in the district court. Among the two cases registered in the Morang District Court, one case involved a demand for four months of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 15,000, while the other case involved a bail amount of Rs 100,000. Tamang had been in Morang prison since February 4 after failing to pay the bail. The case against Tamang for stealing a motorcycle is pending in the districts of Morang, Jhapa, Sunsari, Ilam, and Dhankuta.
The body has been kept at the mortuary of Koshi Hospital, Biratnagar.
