The District Court sentenced a 17-year-old to 12 years and eight months imprisonment on 1 September for raping a 15-year-old girl. According to Information Officer Dhurba Subedi, the bench of District Judge Gopal Prasad Bastola delivered the following verdict and ordered the accused to pay a compensation of Rs 4, 73,001 to the victim.
The district court’s decision states that if the offender pays the fine within three months, the juvenile will serve only 2 years in prison, with the remaining 10 and 8 months being reduced. Additionally, imprisonment will be exempted if the offender commits in writing not to commit any criminal offenses in the next 5 years. If the offender breaks this commitment, they will have to serve the full punishment.
The accused was arrested on July 6 based on a complaint from the aggrieved party, which alleged that the accused had raped the girl on July 5. The case was registered in the District Police Office on 5 July and was registered in the District Court on 22 July. The health examinatiation of the victim was done at the Dhading Hospital on July 6.
