INSEC Initiated Educational Material Support to Underprivileged Girl

The Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC) has initiated a program to provide educational materials to the daughter of a domestic violence victim. Through the efforts of the INSEC district representative, Kirdac Nepal, Jumla has contributed to this initiative by supplying educational materials to the girls. The materials were handed over by Babita Rokaya, the Acting Principal of Chandannath Secondary School in Jumla. Asika Budha, a 10-year-old daughter of 27-year-old Sarma Rawat from Tila Rural Municipality-1, Raralihi, is a student in Class 2 at Chandannath Secondary School in Khalanga. She faced numerous challenges in attending school lacking basic necessities such as a school uniform, stationery, notebooks, pens, and a bag. According to a local resident Bijay Rawat, Asika couldn’t attend school because she lacked these essential educational materials. Bijay Rawat shared this issue with INSEC district representative Rawal, who then collaborated with Diparaj Rawat, the coordinator of Kirdac Nepal, Jumla, a child-focused organization to provide the necessary educational materials for Asika. Sriram Thapa, the Child Protection Officer of Kirdarc Nepal, Jumla, stated that the girl has been provided with school uniforms, a bag, 100 notebooks, and 50 pens and pencils, with a total value of Rs 8,000. The INSEC Karnali Provincial Office in Surkhet had previously provided financial assistance to domestic violence victim Sarma Rawat, who was unable to pursue legal action due to her difficult economic situation.

Sarma Rawat shared that her 28-year-old husband, Hari Bahadur Budha, has subjected her to domestic violence, repeatedly beating her and inflicting both physical and mental torture. She mentioned that she married her husband in September 2009 and they have two children, a son and a daughter. On the evening of Vijayadashami in 2023, she was beaten and evicted from her home. After spending a month at her parents’ house, she is now living with her 10-year-old daughter in a room in Chandannath Municipality-6, Khalanga, the headquarters of Jumla. She filed for divorce from her husband, registering the case in the district court of Jumla on November 21, 2023.
