Thirtieth “Prakash Human Rights Award” to Purnimaya Lama

INSEC decided to award this year’s Prakash Human Rights Award to 62-year-old Purnimaya Lama of Namobuddha Municipality 9, Dapcha, Kavrepalanchowk, who has been struggling for transitional justice.Purnimaya-Lama

In the press release issued by INSEC, it is stated that the meeting held on July 22 by the INSEC Working Committee decided to award Purnimaya Lama with the 30th ‘Prakash Human Rights Award’. This decision was made on the recommendations of the five-member award selection committee, formed under the coordination of the organization’s advisor and founding president Sushil Pyakurel.

This award is named in memory of INSEC founder general secretary Prakash Kafle, who tragically lost his life in the Thai Air accident at Ghopte Bhir in Nuwakot on July 31, 1992.

People who have made special contributions based on rights-oriented awareness from the political, educational, health, and social sectors of Nepal have been awarded “Prakash Memorial Day” every year.

Previous recipients of the Prakash Human Rights Award include 29 activists, such as senior journalist Binaykumar Kasaju, senior social worker Dayavir Singh Kansakar, Dr. Gaurishankar Lal Das, Dalit activist Ramrati Devi Ram, women’s rights activist Basanti Devi Jha, senior journalist Narayan Sharma, and Rukaiyya Khatun.

A ceremony to honor Lama will be held at Nepal Administrative Staff College, Lalitpur on 31 July in the presence of Honorable Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The awardee will receive a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 along with a certificate.
