Lack of Teachers Created Education Challenges at School in Simkot

Panchmukhi Basic School in Simkot Rural Municipality-1, Thehe is facing significant challenges regarding operating the school due to a lack of teachers. One hundred students of child development class are forced to study together in one classroom. Last year, there wereabout 60 students, but since this year’s academic session, the number of students has increased, causing them to sit in the same hall and study together.

Lakshman Bohora, a teacher at Panchamukhi Basic School, said that since the school is located on the roadside near the Rural Municipality, all the students from Ward No. 1 and No. 2 enroll here. Consequently, the building hall, constructed for child development, is now full of students. Bohora added that the child development room is narrow, which creates more problems for children to rest during the afternoon. Even though a two-room building has been constructed for child development, there is still a problem as the students have to study in one hall due to a lack of teachers.

Teacher Satyadevi Upadhyaya said that there must be at least three teachers to teach the current number of students. She mentioned that the lack of teachers in the school has negatively affected the students’ learning. Upadhyaya expressed that she has had to teach one hundred students in the child development class. Due to the lack of teachers for child development, since the academic session started in February, she has been the only teacher instructing the students. Upadhyaya added that having to sit in the same hall with a large number of students hinders their education.

The Rural Municipality is the largest and most populated in the district. Principal Bishnu Bohora said that although there are three permanent and three temporary teachers, students in the upper-level classes are still facing problems with their studies. Additionally, despite informing the Rural Municipality about the shortage of teachers, no action has been taken. When Ujir Rokaya, Chief Administrative Officer of Simkot Rural Municipality, was asked about the matter, he responded that they would address the issue with the next year’s budget.
