Despite the vaccination campaign against IPV in the district, in 1943 children across the district were deprived of IPV vaccines. During the vaccination campaign conducted from May 26 to May 29, 4,743 children were targeted for vaccination across the district. However, only 2,800 children were vaccinated due to insufficient vaccine supply, leaving 1,943 children without vaccination as per Pasuram Nepali, Information Officer of the District Hospital.
He mentioned that the progress report has been submitted to the Provincial Health Services Directorate in Birendranagar, Surkhet, and correspondence has also been sent requesting the delivery of vaccines that have not yet arrived.
Polio vaccine is administered via injection to protect against poliomyelitis, caused by both natural poliovirus and vaccine-derived poliovirus. District Hospital Head Kamal Dhungana stated that this vaccination campaign was aimed at protecting children who missed receiving IPV vaccinations from polio.
Inadequate vaccination should have not arrived on time. Additionally, heavy rainfall has further complicated this matter as roads in the district are also closed. Furthermore, Charitra Dhami, the Health Coordinator of Soru Rural Municipality, criticized the government of Nepal for negligence in the delayed delivery of the vaccine.
