Residents of Yangchu, Kharpunath Rural Municipality-5 have been deprived of drinking water for a month.For the past month, villagers have been deprived of clean drinking water after the water pipeline was cut during the construction of the road using an excavator from Syalabada to Kharpel Rural Municipality.
Balkrishna Shahi, a resident of the same place, complained that due to the construction of the road, 37 households in the hills of Yangchu are now forced to drink polluted water from the Karnali River. He added that citizens have to spend an hour and a half to reach the Karnali River and fetch water for drinking.
Sagar Shahi, another resident, complained that while fetching water from the Karnali River, there are risks for children and senior citizens of falling into the Karnali River. Furthermore, people face difficulties in fetching water uphill. Shahi complained that the local government is not showing interest in addressing the damage caused by road construction to the local citizens of the area.
When asked about the matter, Bishnu Bahadur Shahi, Chief Administrative Officer of Kharpunath Rural Municipality, admitted that the water supply line was cut during the construction of the road and assured that the problem would be addressed.
