Protest against student assault

Principal Ramanand Sunrait Yadav, 44, along with Chairperson Ritesh Yadav, 36, of School Management Committee, Prakash Yadav, 44, from Rajbiraj Municipality-7, and Umesh Yadav, 45, from Boriya, are reportedly involved in an incident where they allegedly physically assaulted 16-year-old students Bikas Kumar Mandal and Roshan Kumar Shah, studying in class 10 at Narendra Memorial Janata Secondary School in Boriya, Rajbiraj Municipality-16. The incident reportedly stemmed from the students’ claims of the school demanding additional money under the guise of examination fees, despite having already paid the required amount for filling out the examination forms.

According to Mandal, ‘Our school has allegedly imposed a fee of Rs. 1000 for filling out the class 10 form, whereas other schools charge Rs. 400. Subsequently, when we attempted to obtain the exam admit card, we were additionally required to pay Rs. 400.’

Injured Shah mentioned that after his friends posted a video on Facebook on December 11, protesting against the alleged unjustified collection of fees, the accused individuals reportedly assaulted them on December 12 for purportedly defaming the school. As per the victims, the accused individuals allegedly subjected them to physical assault using an iron rod and subsequently compelled them to undress, reportedly capturing the incident on video. Additionally, they allegedly threatened to upload the recorded video on Facebook if the victims raised objections to the charges or disclosed the incident to anyone.

About 500 students of the school reportedly protested by blocking the road in Rajbiraj, demanding action against the principal and the chairman of the school management committee. The students marched around Rajbiraj and reached the relevant offices, including Education Development and Coordination Unit of Rajbiraj Municipality, demanding strict action against the alleged culprits after an investigation into the incident.

They reportedly went around different parts of the city, temporarily obstructing traffic at Shahid Dashan Chowk, and staged a demonstration at the Municipality office, causing disruption to regular activities.
