The police arrested 41-year-old Prakash Mahatara, owner of Oasis Construction in Ghorahi Sub-Municipality-14, on November 8 for the charge of assaulting Bharat KC, a 43-year-old Sub Engineer from Ghorahi Sub-Municipality -17, in his workplace.
The victim reported that he was subjected to verbal abuse and physical assault by Mr. Mahatara due to work delays. Janak Bahadur Malla, the Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, disclosed that the victim filed a complaint at the District Police Office on November 7, stating that he had been physically assaulted with bricks and punches and that other staff members intervened to stop the incident.
According to the police, after the contract of Mahatara, the builder who took the contract for the construction of Medium School building in Dhikpur located in Ghorahi sub-municipal-8, expired at the end of July 2023, the Ghorahi Sub-Municipality executive meeting on November 6 extended the deadline to complete the work again KC was assaulted and abused for not being quick in the operation of the work.
The employees of Ghorahi Sub-municipality stopped their work in protest against the assault.The sub-metropolitan employees released a joint statement, urging authorities to take action against the accused and highlighting their inability to work due to security concerns. On November 7, they submitted a memorandum to Chief District Officer Rambandhu Subedi, reiterating their demand for action.
