On July 16, a 21-year-old Mahiku Mahiku, a resident of Surunga Municipality-4, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the crime of raping a 14-year-old girl.
District Judge Navin Kumar Joshi’s bench, after finding the accused guilty, pronounced the sentence of 12 years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 400,000. Additionally, the court ordered the accused to pay Rs. 100,000 to the victim as compensation and contribute Rs. 2,200 to the victim’s relief fund.
The victim’s father lodged a complaint with the Kadarbona Area Police Office on June 4, 2022, reporting that the accused had raped his daughter on June 2, 2022. The victim stated that the accused forcibly took her from her home and assaulted her in the community forest located in Surunga Municipality-3, Lakshmipur.
Following the complaint, the victim underwent a medical examination at District Hospital Siraha on June 4, 2022. Subsequently, the police arrested the accused on June 6, 2022. On June 28, 2022, Judge Rishiram Acharya’s bench filed the charge sheet in the district court. Since June 29, 2022, the accused was being held in custody at Rajbiraj Jail.
