A week-long human rights trainer training program, jointly organized by the Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC) and the Armed Police Force Nepal Head Office, successfully concluded in Kathmandu on July 14. The training saw the participation of 25 individuals, including DSPs, Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, and Assistant Sub-Inspectors from the Armed Police Force.
During the closing session held at the Armed Police Force Headquarters in Halchowk, AIG Narayanadatta Aryal urged the participants to apply the knowledge gained from the training in their work to safeguard human rights. He expressed confidence that this training would prove beneficial in ensuring the protection of human rights in their respective workplaces.
Dr. Kundan Aryal, Chairperson of INSEC, highlighted the organization’s commitment to human rights education and its collaborations with various government agencies. He expressed belief that such training initiatives would contribute significantly to the promotion and protection of human rights.
Krishna Gautam, Information Officer of INSEC, emphasized the organization’s extensive experience in human rights education and acknowledged that the collaboration with the Armed Police had opened new avenues for cooperation.
The training covered a wide range of topics, including the concept, nature, and development of human rights; the role and functions of national human rights institutions; human rights and humanitarian law issues; torture and its prevalence in Nepal; fundamental human rights in Nepal and protection mechanisms; transitional justice and the peace process in Nepal; Nepal’s international obligations regarding human rights; the theory and practice of excessive force; the role of the police in fair trial and judicial administration; gender justice and violence against women; child rights and juvenile justice; the role of civil society in the protection and promotion of human rights in Nepal; disasters and human rights; refugee and cross-border issues; the role of the Armed Police Force-Nepal; human rights documentation, and more.
Distinguished individuals such as Sushil Pyakurel, Founding Chairperson of INSEC and former member of the National Human Rights Commission; Subodhraj Pyakurel, Former Chairperson of INSEC; Teknarayan Kunwar, High Court Judge; Yagya Prasad Adhikari, Joint Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission; Bhavna Bhatt, Vice President of the Non-Governmental Organization Federation Nepal; Journalist Aarti Chatout; SP of the Armed Police, Yuvraj Aryal; Human Rights Expert Achyut Acharya; Advocate Ravindra Bhattarai; Human Rights activists Shobhakar Budhathoki, Tarak Dhital, Sriram Adhikari, Missya Shrestha, Madan Poudel, Krishna Gautam, Ramesh Prasad Timalsina, Deepa Dixit, and others facilitated the training program, providing valuable insights and expertise on various topics.
