On July 10, Judge Diwakar Bhatt’s bench of the District Court pronounced its verdict in the case involving Prem Bahadur Darzi (34 years old) and Sagar Nepali (20 years old) from Tarakhola Rural Municipality-4. The defendants were sentenced to five years of imprisonment for the crimes of sexual abuse against a 17-year-old girl and attempted rape against a 38-year-old woman. Additionally, the court ordered the accused to pay Rs. 400,000 each as compensation to the victims.
While the accused were acquitted of the charge of homicide, they were convicted of attempted rape. The incident came to light when the victims filed a complaint at the Baglung District Police Office on June 3, 2022, alleging that they were subjected to sexual abuse and attempted rape after being given drugs in their drinks on May 28, 2022. Subsequently, the police registered a case against the accused in the Baglung District Court on June 27, charging them with attempted rape and attempted homicide.
On June 3, 2022, a health examination of the victim was conducted at Dhaulagiri Hospital in Baglung. Following the order of the Baglung District Court on June 28, the accused were detained in District Jail Baglung for further investigation.
