On June 28, the police apprehended Gita Joshi, a 35-year-old resident of Bhimdatta Municipality-6 Aithpur, on charges of attempting to engage in the sale and trafficking of an 18-year-old girl and a 27-year-old woman.

DSP Prakash Dangi from the District Police Office in Kanchanpur reported that Shyam Joshi, who was allegedly involved in the incident, was being investigated as he was believed to be working in India.

During a meeting with an INSEC representative, Maheshwari Bhatt, the individual in charge of Maiti Nepal, disclosed that Gita Joshi, the accused, was detained on June 25. Suspicion arose when she was transporting the victims to India via the Gaddachouki border crossing under the pretext of offering employment opportunities. Consequently, Gita Joshi was handed over to the police.

Subsequently, based on the victim’s complaint, a case was filed on June 29 at the district court, charging Gita Joshi with human trafficking and trafficking-related offenses. DSP Dangi from the district police office confirmed this information during a phone call with an INSEC representative.

On June 29, the victims underwent a health examination at the Mahakali Regional Hospital. Presently, both victims are being sheltered at secure accommodation homes operated by Maiti Nepal and Mahila Triangle.
