Journalist Association Condemns Police Treatment of Journalist

Morang Branch of the Journalist Association condemned the action of Armed Police Border Security against Shusheela Pathak, a 35, journalist from Biratnagar Metropolitan City-8. The police seized the communication material of Pathak, who is currently working at Kantipur Television.

He informed the police verbally abused him and seized his mobile phone and media gadgets, on May 24, 2023. The police officer deleted the photos and videos. Pathak was documenting the activities at Purano Bhansar in Biratnagar.

Netrapi Adhikari, Secretary of the Branch, said he filed a complaint at the Nepal Journalist Association Morang Branch, on May 24.

Nepal Journalists Mahasangh Morang, Nepal Press Union Morang, and Nepal Photo Journalists Mahasangh released a press statement on May 24, regarding the incident issued on May 10. The statement condemned the actions of the state’s security agencies, to suppress the freedom of the press.

Secretary of the Federation, Netripi Adhikari said, after the protest against the police action, the armed police returned the mobile phone of the  Pathak to the Morang branch of the Nepal Journalist Federation on the evening of May 24.

According to the Secretary, although the mobile phone was returned the materials collected in the phone were deleted.
