Police arrested former Deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, who is a member of the House of Representatives elected from Arghakhanchi Constituency No.1, on May 14, from Budhanilkanth Municipality-5, Pasikot.
A team from District Police Complex, Kathmandu issued an arrest warrant against Rayamajhi on May 3 after his name was linked to a fraudulent act of sending fake Bhutanese refugees to the US for asylum.
SP Sitaram Rijal, Spokesperson of the District Police Complex, Kathmandu, informed that he Special Bureau of the Police Headquarters. arrested Rayamajhi, on May 14, who had absconded after the police issued an arrest warrant against him. He is kept in the custody of police station Sohrakhute.
According to Rijal Rayamajhi is accused of helping an organized group that accommodated documents and reports of Nepali citizens as fake Bhutanese refugees to America. Similarly, the police have recovered a check for 10.5 million rupees under the name of Rayamajhi’s son, Sandeep Rayamajhi. Police arrested Sandeep on May 3, 2023.
Among Rayamjhi, the police arrested former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa’s Security Adviser, Indrajit Rai on May 2, Teknarayan Pandey, the incumbent Secretary of the Government of Nepal on May 3, and former Home Minister Balkrishna Khand, and Khand’s Personal Secretary, Narendra KC, on May 10.
The police arrested the primary accused, Keshav Dulal, Sanu Bhandari, Sagar Thulung Rai, Tank Gurung, Sandesh Sharma Pokharel, Govind Chaudhary, and Ramsharan KC. They are accused of operating the organized fraudulent act for the past five years.
The police have issued arrest warrants against Indrajit’s son Niraj Rai and Prateek Thapa, son of former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ and Constituent Assembly Member, Angtawa Sherpa, for their involvement in the incident.
The Kathmandu Crime Investigation Office of the police is investigating the incident of an organized group involved in issuing fake refugee identity cards for Nepali citizens for refugee status in the United States. The aggrieved party filed a complaint against the group stating that they had more than 10 million rupees crores from more than 875 Nepali youths, in the guise of issuing a fake refugee card to them.
