Joint Statement Released Demanding Action against Madan Rai For Child Sexual Abuse

The Children As Zone Of Peace National Campaign has demanded action against Madan Rai, 75, of Sakela Rural Municipality, the founder of Subhadra Madan Foundation, Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadi Municipality-2,  for sexual abuse in a joint statement.

Rajesh Sharma and Mina Sharma the chairperson and the General Secretary of CZOP issued the joint statement respectively. The statement mentions that allegations of sexual abuse of children of his foundation against Madan Rai have been confirmed.

News of Madan Rai sexually abusing children in the foundation in some way or another is being broadcasted through various media.

The statement of CZOP has demanded the relevant authorities for the protection of children who were compelled to go through physical as well as mental stress because of the actions of Rai.

The Constitution of Nepal 2015, Article 39 envisions the rights of Children. The sub-article 6 of the same article prohibits physical, mental, sexual, or any other type of exploitation against children.

The released statement mentions, ‘In sub-section 5 of Section 7 of the Act relating to Children, 2015, every child is guaranteed the right to receive protection against all forms of physical or mental torture, harassment, inhumane treatment, and sexual abuse.’

As stated in the release statement, sub-section 3 of section 66 of the Act, considers the act of displaying obscene and sexual behavior, the act of gestures that suggest a sexual activity, giving pressure to seduce or threaten or causing to touch or hold the sensitive parts of another’s body

as child abuse.

Surya Rai, Principal of Janajagriti Secondary School, run by Shubham Foundation, accepted that the news that came out in the media about the sexual abuse of children is true to a large extent. The school provides education with housing for street children and orphans. The children of some members of the foundation and school are also enrolled in the Foundation for education.

INSEC Bhojpur representative Ganesh Bisht confirms witnessing students being subjected to suffering in the name of practical education, during INSEC’s visit to Shubham Foundation from Jandaya Secondary School, located in Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality-6 on March 28.

According to INSEC Khotang representative Taranath Phuyal, Children above the age of eight were compelled to be involved in agricultural labor within the foundation in the name of life-skills education. The children had to pick up human excrement by hand and spread it on the fields.
