Manoj Poudel, the ward chairperson of Khadadevi rural Municipality-5, was attacked, during his return home on May 10, by a group led by a congress cadre Bijay Shrestha, 44.
They also vandalized the government motorcycle, 3-02-001, he was riding. Poudel ran away after being attacked however, the motorcycle was destroyed.
The ward was having a conflict with the locals regarding the land in which the ward is constructing a building for the ward office.
Chairperson Poudel, says that the land is owned by the ward and they had been operating through a temporary building, constructed on the same land. The old building was demolished for the construction of a new one after the rural municipality approved a budget for the construction.
The locals started a dispute after the all-party meeting decided to proceed with the construction. They even destroyed the layout made for the construction of the building.
Khadadevi Rural Municipality issued a press release regarding the attack on the Ward Chairperson Poudel.
Gyankumar Shrestha, the Chairperson of the Rural Municipality stated that the attack on the ward chairperson seriously violated the law of the Municipality.
The village council has demanded to arrest those involved in the incident and to start the process of legal action immediately.
The Rural Municipality informed about the incident at District Police Office on May 10, 2023, and the complaint was filed on May 12, 2023.
