Violation of Code of Conduct by Political Parties and Election Candidates

Political parties and election candidates have violated the election code of conduct during the election campaigns for the by-election to be held on April 23, 2023, in the Bara constituency no. 2.

On April 19, During a stage election meeting of the alliance party, April 19, at  Mahagadhimai Municipality-1 Bariyarpur, the organizers and participants used party flags, banners, scales, and election symbols of the five parties against the code of conduct. CPN Maoist Center Chairperson and Prime Minister,  Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress Chairperson, Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (Unified Socialist) Madhav Kumar Nepal, Democratic Socialist Party, Nepal’s  Chairperson  Mahant Thakur have violated the code of conduct during the election meeting held by People’s Socialist Party, Nepal Chairman and a candidate for Bara Region No. 2, Upendra Yadav.

Harikrishna Baral, Member Secretary of the Election Monitoring Committee, Head of the Finance and Accounts Control Office, said that despite the plan to monitor election campaigns in the by-elections, the meeting to plan the monitoring activities was not held until April 19. Baral said that action will be taken after monitoring the issue of loud music playing during the election campaign.

Posters, leaflets, banners, and flags are hung on the walls of monasteries, temples, markets, main roads, squares, squares, schools, health institutions, and private houses without permission. Leaders of the alliance part have misused the vehicle limit,  by using fifty vehicles for the election campaign. They have further ignored the code of conduct by making children sing songs for election campaigns.
