Police arrested Kamal Khadka, 44, of Birendranagar Municipality-3, on July 1, on charges of beating Ganesh Karki, 35, an Engineer (Sixth Level Officer) employed at Bheriganga Municipality.
The victim filed a complaint at the Chhinchu Area Police Office on July 1, alleging that Khadka physically attacked him outside the office of the Mayor earlier that afternoon.
Following the complaint, the accused was arrested, and further investigation is underway, according to Inspector Shyam Prasad Yadav of the Surkhet District Police Office.
According to the victim, Karki, a discussion had been held among Mayor Yagya Prasad Dhakal, Deputy Mayor Dhansara Bohara, Chief Administrative Officer Hari Bahadur Khatri, himself, and construction contractors regarding municipality-related construction works. During the discussion, contractor Khadka demanded that the stock he had submitted to the municipality be verified. The municipality responded that the process would move forward only after further study and discussion on the matter. The victim alleges that, as the participants were leaving the meeting, Khadka suddenly attacked him in front of the Mayor’s office.
