Female inmates housed in the ‘C Block’ of Saptari Jail in Rajbiraj have been on a hunger strike since May 20, 2026, demanding the withdrawal of what they describe as false charges filed against them.
Following an incident on the night of April 24, when female inmates attempted to escape by cutting the window bars of the ‘C Block’, the jail administration immediately took seven women under control and filed a case at the District Court, Rajbiraj, seeking legal action against 12 female inmates.
Only five of the women had admitted to cutting the window bars. The women, Lila Devi Yadav, Shanti Devi Pal, Ranju Devi Yadav, Pooja Kumari Ram, Manisha Mandal, Bina Devi Sah, and Bina Devi Yadav, have gone on a hunger strike, stating that they will continue their protest until the charges against them are withdrawn.
