Accused of Caste-Based Discrimination Arrested

Police arrested Kabita Devi Yadav, 45, of Aurahi Rural Municipality-5 on April 8 on charges of caste-based discrimination and degrading treatment.

According to the victim, Indrakumari Mandal, 17, of Aurahi Municipality-3, her mother-in-law, Kabita, refused to accept her as a daughter-in-law, saying, “You are of a lower caste, untouchable,” and subjected her to caste-based discrimination and degrading behavior before expelling her from the household. The victim stated that Meghnath Yadav, 18, had taken her to Nepalgunj and married her at Durga Temple on May 8, 2025. She further said that after returning home while pregnant, she was insulted on the basis of caste and driven out of the house, and that her husband, Meghnath, was also forced to leave the home.

According to DSP Shailendra Bhatt, a case was filed on October 12 at the District Police Office, Mahottari, against Meghnath Yadav’s mother, Kavita Devi Yadav, under Section 160 (Offence of Discrimination and Degrading Treatment) of Chapter 10 of the National Penal Code, 2017.
