Police arrested Gopilal Tamang, 36, on March 31, for allegedly beatinging his wife, Sharmila Tamang, 34, of Gokulganga Rural Municipality–6, accusing her of being a “witch.”
According to the victim, her husband has been physically abusing her with such accusations since their love marriage in 2014. Due to the beating, Sharmila sustained injuries on various parts of her body and was admitted to Tamakoshi Hospital, Manthali, on March 30 for treatment. She has a daughter, Gunjan Tamang, 12, and a son, Sujal Tamang, 7.
The victim also alleged that previous incidents of abuse were suppressed through forced reconciliation despite repeated complaints. DSP Bhola Bhatt of the District Police Office, Ramechhap, stated that further investigation into the case is ongoing.
