The Koshi Province government reported damages amounting to Rs 770,000,000 across various government offices in the province during the Gen Z protest. Following the protest, the Koshi Province government, on September 12, formed a Damage Assessment and Evaluation Committee under the coordination of Engineer Binam Dahal from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development. The committee’s report, released on October 31, stated that the protest on September 8 and 9 caused damages worth Rs 770,000,000 throughout the province.
The committee includes Senior Accounts Officer Dhyanbilas Rai, Engineer Ashya Bhattarai, Engineer Prabeenkumar Yadav, and Engineer Sonam Sinha as members and secretaries. According to the committee’s report, approximately 54% of the total damage was sustained by vehicles.
During the protest, 265 vehicles belonging to various provincial government offices were damaged by fire or vandalism, resulting in an estimated loss of Rs 41,52,00,000. The highest damage occurred at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, where losses exceeded Rs 15,62,00,000. Of this amount, damage to vehicles alone accounted for Rs 7,79,00,000.
According to government reports, the protest caused extensive damage to government equipment, including computers, printers, air conditioners, refrigerators, furniture, and information systems, with total losses estimated at approximately Rs 170,000,000. The Damage Assessment Committee formed by the Koshi Province government detailed the losses across individual ministries: the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law suffered Rs 130,500,000 in damages, the Ministry of Industry, Agriculture, and Cooperatives Rs 128,200,000, and the Provincial Assembly Secretariat Rs 126,700,000. Other affected ministries include the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development with Rs 88,800,000, the Ministry of Tourism, Forests, and Environment Rs 80,000,000, the Ministry of Health Rs 65,500,000, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning Rs 35,800,000, the Ministry of Drinking Water, Irrigation, and Energy Rs 22,300,000, and the Ministry of Social Development Rs 12,200,000.
According to the report, the least damage was recorded at the Provincial Investment Authority, with losses amounting to Rs 9,299,000, and the Office of the Chief Attorney, which suffered damages worth Rs 95,000. The report estimates that approximately Rs 184,600,000 will be required for the repair and reconstruction of the damaged buildings. Among the offices, the highest reconstruction cost is estimated for the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, at around Rs 964,700,000.
The report estimates that the reconstruction of the Provincial Assembly Secretariat building will cost around Rs 46,700,000, while the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development will require Rs 16,200,000. Similarly, the Ministry of Tourism will need Rs 10,200,000, the Ministry of Drinking Water Rs 7,800,000, the Ministry of Social Development Rs 35,00,000, the Ministry of Health Rs 33,00,000, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning Rs 3,64,000. The committee has recommended that the Koshi Province government immediately repair and reconstruct all government properties damaged during the protest.
