Government Builds Houses for Ten Dalit Families in Temkemaiyung

Dalit families in Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality have received new houses. Ten Dalit families, who had been living in huts due to financial hardship, were provided houses through the People’s Housing Program. Local resident Devicharan Darnal said that life had been very difficult for them as they were unable to build houses because of poverty, but with the government constructing homes for them, living conditions have become easier. He expressed happiness, saying that after spending years under tarpaulin shelters, finally having a proper house has brought great relief. He added that they were forced to live under tarpaulin huts for generations because of poverty. Additionally, life during the rainy season and winter was extremely difficult. Now, with the new houses, things have become much easier for them.

Local Phulmaya Bishwakarma said that since the government built houses for them, daily life has become easier for those who had been living under the open sky or in cattle sheds and in huts.‘With the construction of the house, their daily lives have completely changed. She added that life was extremely difficult due to poverty and they had no means to build a proper house. With no good source of income, people were forced to work as daily wage laborers. After the government built houses, it has become easier to make a living. Earlier due to the cold, children would fall sick almost every day, but now such problems have come to an end.

The government identified landless Dalit families in poor financial condition and constructed houses for them. Ward Chairperson Nabaraj Mangpahang informed that the houses for the underprivileged families were built under the government’s People’s Housing Program with the budget provided through the Urban Development and Building Division Office, Dhankuta.

Ward Chairperson Mangpahang stated that each house was constructed with an investment of Rs 3,36,000. Ten Dalit families have received new houses through government support. These houses were provided to extremely poor families. He further informed that after the completion of these houses, the necessary process for three additional poor families had been forwarded, but the budget for them has not yet been received.
