Shuklaphanta Municipality Suffers Losses Over Three Crore

Shuklaphanta Municipality suffered significant financial damage during the recent Gen-Z protest. According to municipal records, vandalism and arson caused losses amounting to Rs 32,510,055, with damages spread across municipal and ward-level offices. Municipal spokesperson Lal Bahadur Air reported that the main administrative building was successfully protected. However, Krishna Karki, head of the Inventory Section, stated that the heaviest loss occurred in Ward No. 8, where property, documents, furniture, computers, and records worth Rs 55,96,871 were destroyed.

Similarly, losses were recorded in Ward No. 1 of Rs46,74,959, Ward No. 7 of Rs 45,03,072, Ward No. 3 of Rs 25,10,494, and Ward No. 5 of Rs 23,10,771. Other wards also suffered losses running into millions including Ward No. 6 of Rs 18,87,814, Ward No. 12 of Rs 15,51,496, Ward No. 2 of Rs 15,73,149, Ward No. 9 of Rs 15,22,591, Ward No. 4 of Rs 15,12,078, Ward No. 11 of Rs 13,43,589, and Ward No. 10 of Rs 7,47,682.

The local service delivery has been completely disrupted due to the destruction of ward-level office buildings, furniture, computers, and records. According to the local representatives, while temporary services are being provided through the main municipal office, the lack of resources has made timely service delivery difficult. The protests have affected not only municipal offices but also local residents, who are now compelled to travel to the municipal headquarters for services previously available at ward offices. The municipality has requested the federal government to allocate funds for repair and reconstruction of the damaged infrastructure.

“Although we managed to protect the records at the main office, the losses at the ward level are massive,” Section Chief Karki said. “Among the districts, this municipality has suffered the greatest damage in the name of protests.

Local residents have urged the government to take immediate steps to restore the administrative structure and ensure timely services for citizens.
