Police have reported that 91 inmates who escaped from the detention of the Area Police Offices in Damak and Jhijhile are still out of contact. During the Gen-Z protests on September 9, 92 detainees had escaped from the three detention centers following arson and vandalism at the police offices.
According to Information Officer Khagendra Bahadur Khadka of the District Police Office, one of the escaped inmates has come into contact voluntarily, while the search for the remaining inmates is ongoing. During the Gen-Z protests, 51 detainees escaped from the Anarmani Area Police Office in Birtamod, 36 from the Damak Area Police Office, and 5 from the Jhijhile Area Police Office. Police further stated that most of the weapons looted from the Area Police Offices in Birtamod and Damak during the Gen-Z protests on September 9 have been recovered.
Out of the 99 weapons looted, 75 have been safely recovered, while 24 weapons are still missing. Among the recovered weapons are 11 SLRs, 26 INSAS rifles, 18 .303 rifles, 5 shotguns, 6 gas guns, 6 revolvers, and 3 SMGs, as per the District Police Office. Information Officer Khagendra Bahadur Khadka stated that the search for the escaped inmates and the missing weapons is being carried out intensively.
