The academic journey of the students with visual imparity studying at Shivalaya Secondary School of Kusma Municipality has been obstructed due to the lack of books with Braille.
Students from Grade 1 to 10 have been studying through Braille but those in their high school are deprived of the books with Braille font. The school has 14 students with visual disabilities among which four study in Grade 11 and two in Grade 12.
Belkumari Chhetri, 19, a student with low vision, lamented that they could not move ahead academically due to a lack of Braille textbooks.
Kusum Gautam, 20, said that although Braille was not available if a laptop could be managed she could participate in the class like other students.
School’s resource teacher Haridatta Sharma said that the students with visual imparity could not move forward due to the lack of Braille textbooks. He further added that every stakeholder should be concerned about it.
Bishnu Prasad Poudel, Chief of Kushma Municipality’s Education Branch said that the government of Nepal has not been able to print the syllabus of the classes above Grade 10 with Braille font.
