School Locked During Class Hours by Representatives in Ramechhap

Hira Kumari Giri, 43, a member of the District Coordination Committee Ramechhap, and Dhanlal Tamang, 46, a ward member, along with others, imposed a lockdown in the building of Sthanapati Secondary School in Bangesalla, Manthali Municipality-9 on May 19. The school was locked during regular classes following a meeting held in the presence of Giri, Tamang, and others. The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Dhanbahadur Tamang, the senior member of the School Management Committee, with the participation of local representatives, citing the school’s failure to complete the formation of its management committee.

Although the School Management Committee election was held and results announced on December 30, 2024, the committee has not been completed as required by law by nominating the necessary members and electing a chairperson, according to their allegations. The decision states that the school was locked because the senior member repeatedly requested the school administration to convene a committee meeting, but the administration ignored these requests.

As the incident occurred during class hours, disrupting the educational activities, Principal Shambhu Mandal submitted an application to the District Administration Office, Ramechhap, on May 19, requesting action against those involved. Chief District Officer Shyam Krishna Thapa informed that both parties have been called for a discussion on May 20.
