Maniraj Sunuwar,24, the Assistant Secretary of Press Chautari Nepal, Ramachhap, and the correspondent for Radio Energy 106.2 MHz in Umakunda, was mistreated while collecting news on a Chandi Puja in Chandi Than, Umakunda Municipality-4, Ramechhap, on the occasion of Ubhauli on May 12. The volunteers of the program reportedly grabbed him by the collar, dragged him, and physically mistreated him. Sunuwar, who had gone to collect news with the permission of the Chandi Guthi Chairperson, was reportedly dragged outside by individuals claiming to be volunteers. Even when he showed his press card, they continued to harass him. Sunuwar mentioned that he had verbally informed the police present at the event about the incident.

Press Chautari Nepal, Ramachha expressed serious concern over the mistreatment of Sunuwar during the collection of news. On May 12, Secretary Shankar Baruwal of Press Chautari Nepal issued a press release condemning the incident in which journalist Sunuwar was mistreated in an insulting manner by the volunteers. He described the incident as reprehensible.

Press Chautari Nepal, Ramechhap, has condemned the incident, stating that it is a direct attack on press freedom, freedom of expression, professional dignity of journalists, and the public’s right to information. The organization has demanded an impartial investigation into the incident and strict action against those responsible. Press Chautari Nepal has also urged the concerned authorities to ensure the safety of journalists and prevent such incidents from happening again.
