According to Nepal’s legal provisions, marriage is not allowed before the age of 20. However, in some districts of Myagdi, nearly 150 girls under the age of 20 became mothers in the current fiscal year. This is data for the first nine months of the current fiscal year, 137 girls under the age of 20 have become mothers. According to Ganesh Subedi, Information Officer and Family Planning Supervisor at the Province Health Office in Myagdi, one girl from Annapurna Rural Municipality, five from Raghuganga Rural Municipality, seven from Mangala Rural Municipality, twelve from Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality, eighteen from Malika Rural Municipality, and ninety-four from Beni Municipality gave birth before reaching the age of 20.
In the current fiscal year, a total of 546 women have given birth in Myagdi district, of which 6 gave birth at home. Despite the Nepal government adopting the “Zero Home Delivery Declaration,” four women from Raghuganga Rural Municipality, and one each from Mangala and Dhawalagiri Rural Municipalities gave birth at home.
According to Juneli Bhandari, the ANM at Muna Health Post, one woman from Muna Solbang in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-3 gave birth at home. She mentioned that although all the necessary tests during pregnancy were conducted at the health post in Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality-7, the woman gave birth at home. This has made it difficult to achieve the goal of zero home deliveries.
