The prison administration reported that 67-year-old Ammar Bahadur Rai of Belbari Municipality-4, who was serving a sentence in the District Prison, died on 4 January 2025 during treatment. Rai was admitted to Koshi Hospital on 4 January for treatment due to respiratory problems.
The Morang District Court had sentenced Rai to 14 years of imprisonment on charges of incest. Jailer Dhungel added that Rai, whose sentence was due to end on 19 May 2030, died while still serving his term. He further informed that Rai’s body is being kept in the mortuary of Koshi Hospital, and his family will collect it on 5 January 2025.
