An attention letter has been submitted demanding a credible and transparent selection process for officials of the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. On November 14, a joint team of representatives from various organizations, including INSEC Madhesh Province Coordinator Raju Paswan, Advocacy Forum Madhesh Province Coordinator Rajkumar Mahaseth, WOREC Madhesh Province Coordinator Bina Singh, Conflict Victims’ Women National Network Samita Tamang, Single Women Group for Human Rights, Dhanusha Chairperson Subhadra Ale, and Dalit Women’s Association Dhanusha Program Coordinator Sijendra Sada, drew the attention of the committee formed to recommend the chairperson and members of the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission through Chief District Officer of Dhanusha, Ramu Raj Kadariya. The letter of attention was submitted requesting an extension of the application deadline, as the notice demanding the transparent appointment of the chairperson and members of the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, with a one-week deadline, may not receive enough applications. There is a possibility that qualified individuals may not submit their applications within the given time frame.
The committee was formed to recommend the appointment of the chairperson and members of the High-Level Enforced Disappeared Persons Inquiry Commission and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission by Section 3, Subsection (1) of the Enforced Disappeared Persons Inquiry, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act, 2014 published a notice on November 8, requesting qualified individuals to submit their applications within one week.
INSEC Madhesh Province Coordinator Raju Paswan stated that the one-week period may be insufficient for skilled and qualified individuals to apply. He highlighted that this could make the long-delayed transitional justice process ineffective.
