Prisoners Take Refuge on Roof as District Jail Gaur Faces Flooding

Due to incessant rain since September 26, water from the Bagmati and Lalbakaiya rivers has flooded the District Jail in Gaur Municipality-3. The prisoners are being forced to take refuge on the roof. Buddhi Puri, an employee of the jail, stated that due to the incessant rain, prisoners at the District Jail in Gaur had to take refuge on the roof. The jail houses a total of 331 prisoners, including 12 females and 319 males. Hiralal Regmi, Chief of the District Administration Office, reported that after the jail was flooded, all the female prisoners were transferred to the custody of the District Police Office, while the remaining 319 male prisoners were secured on the roof of the jail.

Chairperson Manish Jha of the District Jail stated that due to the rain, water has accumulated up to three feet inside the jail, making it uninhabitable. As a result, prisoners have been provided with food and are being kept under police security on the roof of the prison. He acknowledged that there is currently a significant issue with drinking water, but assured that this problem will be resolved soon. Similarly, CDO Hiralal Regmi mentioned that the Customs Office, Nepal Electricity Authority Gaur branch, District Court, Provincial Hospital Gaur, District Police Office, District Bar Association, and several other offices have been affected by flooding.
