Demonstration Against Death Of A Detainee In Police Custody, Two Injured

On the night of December 21, the relatives and locals of Dipnarayan Mandal from Suganikas, Hanspur Municipality-5, expressed their outrage over his death while in the custody of the local police office in the same municipality. Protesters threw stones at the local police office and set fire to a police motorcycle during the demonstration. In the process, 36-year-old Shiva Shankar Mandal and 32-year-old Motlub Ansari, both from Hanspur Municipality-5 Suganikas, were injured when the police fired to control the situation. The injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Janakpurdham.

According to SP Mitrabandhu Sharma of the District Police Office in Dhanusha, a dispute between two parties in the village on December 21, 2023, led them to visit the local police office to resolve the matter. An agreement was reached, and both parties returned home. Dipnarayan Mandal passed away at home on the same night. However, the deceased’s family insists that he died while in custody.

Raju Paswan, the coordinator of INSEC Madhesh Provincial Office, and Santosh Kumar Yadav, District Representative, visited the incident site to monitor and investigate the facts.
