Despite the onset of colder weather, the timely distribution of warm clothing has not occurred this year, causing inconvenience to the inmates.
While District Jail in Darchula has distributed blankets and mattresses to the prisoners, the distribution of warm clothes is still pending, leaving inmates without necessary winter clothing.
Dammar Bahadur Paal, an inmate at District Jail, Darchula, expressed concern over the increasing cold in November this year, emphasizing the need for timely distribution of warm clothes to cope with the harsh weather.
The prison is currently overcrowded, with more inmates than its capacity. Additionally, there are two elderly male prisoners among the detainees.
Binu Chaudhary, Information Officer of District Jail, Darchula, said that they are ready to distribute warm clothes to the prisoners after Tihar.
The District Jail in Darchula, with a capacity of 25 male and 15 female prisoners, currently houses 56 inmates, including 45 male prisoners, 11 detainees, and one female prisoner.
District Jail in Darchula has 14 prisoners charged with rape, 2 detainees, 13 charged with killing ,3 with child marriage and polygamy offenses, and 1 with sexual abuse, according to Chaudhary, the information officer of the jail.
