On August 7, 2023, the court handed down a sentence of 8 years’ imprisonment to 22-year-old Md. Intiaz of Khadag Municipality-3, 21-year-old Md. Nasim, and 18-year-old Md. Alam for the heinous crime of raping a 15-year-old girl. District Judge Harishchandra Ingnam’s bench pronounced the accused guilty and imposed an 8-year imprisonment for the rape charge and an additional 1.5 years for gang rape. Furthermore, the court ruled that the accused are obligated to provide Rs. 25,000 in compensation to the victim.
The case emerged when the victim’s sister filed a formal complaint at the Kalyanpur area police office on April 8, 2014, detailing that the accused had raped her on April 4, 2018. The victim recounted being abducted from Khadag Municipality-3 and transported to Rajviraj, where the rape occurred. The victim underwent a medical examination at Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Rajviraj on April 8. Subsequently, the Kalyanpur area police office officially documented the complaint on April 8.
Following the indictment of the accused in the district court on October 1, 2018, the court issued a temporary bail warrant for the absconding suspects. Due to their evasion, the Saptari District Court Judge Narayan Prasad Dahal’s bench adjourned the case on December 29, 2019. The proceedings resumed on February 2, 2023. Eventually, the absconding accused were arrested on May 19, 2023.
